Jerome David Salinger

(1919 - 2010)

J.D. Salinger,  was a famous American writer. His novel The Catcher in the Rye (1951) was very popular both among young people and among the adult population of the 20th century.  His published works also include short stories that were printed in magazines, including the The Saturday Evening Post, Esquire, and The New Yorker.

The story tells of a 16-year-old boy named Holden who has been expelled from school. He talks about his perception of American reality and his rejection of general rules and norms of behaviour in modern society.  Confused and disillusioned, Holden searches for truth and opposes  the 'falseness' of the adult world. He ends up exhausted and emotionally unstable. The novel also deals with complex issues of innocence, identity, belonging, loss, and depression.

The novel was included on Time Magazine's 2005 list of the 100 best English-language novels written since 1923, and it had a significant impact on world culture in the second half of the 20th century.

The Magnificent Seven
The Magnificent Seven is a 1960 American Western film directed by John Sturges and starring Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach, Steve McQueen and others. The film is an Old West–style remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1954 Japanese film Seven Samurai.

Peasants of a small village have been suffering from frequent attacks of local bandits for years. Their leader, Calvera, keeps the whole district at bay, tormenting its inhabitants with constant requisitions and punishments. One day, the peasants decide to hire defenders for themselves - seven armed horsemen led by their skin-headed leader Chris. The magnificent seven quickly put things in order, Calvera, however,  manages to escape. So, the capture of the villain and his henchmen becomes a matter of honor for the magnificent seven.

In 2013, the film was selected for the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

Jerome David Salinger

(1919 - 2010)

J.D. Salinger,  was an American writer whose novel The Catcher in the Rye (1951) won critical acclaim and devoted admirers, especially among the post-World War II generation of college students. His published works also include short stories that were printed in magazines, including the The Saturday Evening Post, Esquire, and The New Yorker.

The Catcher in the Rye details two days in the life of 16-year-old Holden Caulfield after he has been expelled from school. Confused and disillusioned, Holden searches for truth and rails against the 'falseness' of the adult world. He ends up exhausted and emotionally unstable. The novel also deals with complex issues of innocence, identity, belonging, loss, and depression.

The novel was included on Time Magazine's 2005 list of the 100 best English-language novels written since 1923, and it was named by Modern Library and its readers as one of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century.
