In a state or manner of paralyzing surprise, fear, or bewilderment. Likened to the tendency of deer to freeze in place in front of an oncoming vehicle.

When she asked me to marry her, I could only stand there like a deer in headlights.

He froze like a deer in the headlights when I caught him taking money out of the register.

to hide something or store something in the way that a squirrel stores nuts for use in the winter.

I squirreled a little money away for an occasion such as this.

Liz squirreled away a lot of money while she was working.

To get sunburned

 I caught the sun at the beach last weekend, and now my back hurts so much that I have to sleep on my side! I made sure to pack you some extra sunscreen so that you don't catch the sun on your trip.

Sour Grapes



something that one cannot have and so disparages as if it were never desirable.

Of course you want to buy this expensive jacket. Criticizing it is just sour grapes, but you still really want it.
