To look like a million dollars – выглядеть на все сто

You always look handsome. And in some pictures you look like a million dollars.

If we assume that people initially judge us based on our appearance, it's an extremely useful piece of advice! And it concerns not only women but men alike.

Batten down the Hatches

to get ready for trouble
to foresee issues and be prepared for the same

The army is wise to batten down the hatches near the border when our neighbouring country seems to be so hostile.

Maybe if implemented correctly, such approach might make one more successful. However, there are tons of cases when such behavior led to opposite results

Sure, it might! And if you give it a thought... It's becoming the way of life nowadays.

I've never given a thought to it. However, on second thought I doubt it can make somebody happier.

Fake It till you Make It

portray yourself like the person you always wanted to become
bringing yourself out of your comfort zone in order to achieve your targets
challenging yourself to perform a task which you are not good at

I had no idea that her family is so illiterate as she always pretended to be classy. Fake it till you make it.

I have joined English language classes to speak in a better way and to appear educated in front of people. We know, fake it till you make it.

I wonder what we could call a hot potato in our school.

I would say it could be usage of gadgets by our students

Hot Potato

something that is hard or terrible to handle but is talked over a lot
a controversial situation that is awkward to deal with

The issue of gun control is a political hot potato in the United States.

I never discuss about anyone’s religion, it can be a hot potato.

Drop like Flies

faint, collapse or die in large numbers
rapidly decrease in number
drop out of a group in large numbers

It was flu season and people in our office were dropping like flies.
In the beginning, a lot of people signed up for the health program, but after a few months they started dropping like flies.
When one of the children in the class got infected, most of the other children started dropping like flies.

Goose Egg
zero
nothing
