Homework for Thursday, March 28, 2024
Unit 11

Guys, this is the video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uerFSSBhko

Please watch the whole video, write down ALL phrases they use when talking about your favourite movie. There are 4-5 parts in this video, each part is about how to say this and how to say that, how to describe this and how to ask that etc. I will check your copybooks.

Using all these phrases be ready for a dialogue with your classmates about the movie that you like most and the movie that you do not like. AGAIN: make sure you use 100% of words/adjectives/phrases from the video lesson. Don't count on your ability to come up with a dialogue on the fly, unprepared. I will have to evaluate you for this assignment.

Unit 11: THEATRE, CINEMA AND TELEVISION

www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcFFwK4ot1k

Here is the link to the video. In case the link doesn't open just type in the search bar "7 Interesting Psychological Facts About Music" and it should be the first video on the list of the search results. The titles in this video are in Russian. You are supposed to listen to the speaker, write down both an English and a Russian versions (a Russian version is already given in the titles). So listen very closely and put down the English version. If you remember yesterday in the class we put down several words that you might struggle to make out. Work with the dictionary if needed.

Be ready to retell and discuss this topic.

Homework for Friday the 16th of February, 2024

1. Read the text again, be able to translate it orally

5. Get Moving
“All mankind is divided into three classes: those that are immovable, those that are movable and those that move.”
There’s a reason we use the expression, movers and shakers. Movers are the ones who take action, the people who get things done, while the immovable are sitting around scratching their heads wondering how others could possibly be so successful. Which group do you want to belong to?

6. Give Yourself Permission to Make Mistakes
“Don’t fear mistakes. You will know failure. Continue to reach out.”
If we fear making mistakes, we become scared to try new things. Fear leaves us nestled in our comfort zone. Staying in your comfort zone rarely leads to greatness. Taking risks and giving yourself permission to make mistakes will ultimately lead you to whatever your version of success may be.

2.Prepare 10 tag qustions based on the vocabulary from The Advice from Benjamin Franklin - in writing

Homework for Friday the 9th of February, 2024

1. Read the text again, be able to translate it orally

The Advice from Benjamin Franklin

Benjamin Franklin also gave tons of great advice to people. Let’s listen to his advice.

1. “Diligence is the mother of good luck”. In other words you make your own luck.

2. Less talk, More Action

“Well done is better than well said.”
Talk is cheap. Talking about a project won’t get it completed. We all know people who constantly talk about the things they are going to do but rarely ever take that first step. Eventually people begin to question their credibility. Taking action and seeing the task through to completion is the only way to get the job done.

 3. Don’t Procrastinate

“Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today.”
This is probably one of the first quotes I remember hearing as a teenager. With an impressive list of achievements to his credit Benyamin Franklin was not a man hung up on procrastination. He was a man with clean measurable goals who worked hard to turn his vision into reality.

 4. Be Prepared

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”
You need a plan to accomplish your goal. Charging in without giving any thought to the end result and how to achieve it, is a sure way to fall flat on your face. Think like a boy scout. Have a realistic plan of attack and a systematic approach for getting where you need to be.

2. Prepare a 1-min monologue based on the texts 2,3,4 p 15-16 on one of the topics:

  • How to be prepared?
  • A real example of procrastination
  • A time when I failed to act
