After her husband had gone to work, Mrs. Richards sent her children to school and went upstairs to her bedroom. She was too excited to do any

She had told him to come straight in if ever she failed to open the door and to leave the bread on the kitchen table. Not wanting to 7. Worry the poor man, Mrs. Richards quickly hid in the small store-room under the stairs. She heard the front door open and heavy footsteps in the hall. Suddenly the door of the store-room was opened and a man entered. Mrs. Richards realized that it must be the man from the Electricity Board who had come to read the meter. She tried to 8. Clear  the situation, saying 'It's only me', but it was too late. The man let out a cry and jumped back several paces. When Mrs. Richards walked towards him, he ran away, slamming the door behind him.

  amen1).I thought about Tolstoy and aboutgh a number of American writers  what a great advantage an experince of war was to a writer.It was one of the major subjects and certainly one of the hardest to write truly ofand those who had not seen it were always very jealous and tried to make it seem unimportant, or a disease as a subject,while, really, it was just something qute irreplaceable that they  had missed.
2).World War II was the most fully reported war in the history of recorded human self-destruction.The states-men may have been unprepared for it, but the writers had been at ready station for twenty years.Managing editors had it on their daily assignment sheets from 1936 on.
3).The reasons for that is obvious. Though a number of Americans writers were involved in the war in this or that way, it wasn't their war.As matter of fact, for Americans it was no war at all.Apart from Pearl Harbor the Americans didn't have another chance to see and to feel waht a real war could be like.
