Советско-Японская война(8 августа - 2 сентября 1945)
Вопрос о вступлении СССР в войну с Японией был решён на конференции в Ялте 11 февраля 1945 года специальным соглашением. В нём предусматривалось, что Советский Союз вступит в войну против Японии на стороне союзных держав через 2−3 месяца после капитуляции Германии и окончания войны в Европе. Япония отвергла требование США, Великобритании и Китая от 26 июля 1945 года сложить оружие и безоговорочно капитулировать.
По свидетельству В. Давыдова вечером 7 августа 1945 года (за два дня до официального разрыва Москвой пакта о нейтралитете с Японией) советская военная авиация неожиданно начала бомбить дороги Маньчжурии.
8 августа 1945 года советское правительство заявило японскому послу в Москве, что с 9 августа Советский Союз считает себя в состоянии войны с Японией.
Численность советских войск составляла 1 670 000 человек. В составе фронтов насчитывалось 26 тыс. орудий и миномётов, 5,5 тыс. танков и самоходно-артиллерийских установок, свыше 3,8 тыс. боевых самолётов. Для координации действий фронтов и флота было создано главное командование во главе с маршалом А. М. Василёвским.
Главную группировку сухопутных войск общей численностью свыше 1 млн человек японское командование продолжало держать против СССР в Маньчжурии, Корее, на Южном Сахалине и Курильских островах. На территории Маньчжурии японцы создали 17 укрепрайонов, каждый из которых достигал более 40 км по фронту.
Планом СССР предусматривалось ударить по японским войскам в трёх направлениях: 2 основных - с восточной стороны Маньчжурской нар. респ. и из Приморья, и вспомогательный - из района Хабаровска. Целью были окружение и разгром противника.
Наступление советских войск проходило в условиях упорного сопротивления японцев. И всё же советские войска, проявив образцы массового героизма и воинской отваги, в короткий срок разгромили врага.
С 19 августа 1945 года японские войска начали капитулировать. В плену оказались 148 японских генералов, 594 тыс. офицеров и солдат. Людские потери с нашей стороны составили 36 456 человек.
2 сентября был подписан акт о капитуляции Японии, что означало конец Второй Мировой Войны.

Thank you for your letter. I was delighted to hear from you. I apologise for being silent for so long, for I have been extremely occupied at school lately. I am glad you have enjoyed your visit to District Columbia. I am hoping to go there someday as well, I bet it would be nice. But for now I am to live in Russia with no interesting sights to get my hands on. And no, I haven't visited a single city, town or thorp in my native country apart from, obviously, small county village Domodedovo, from where I usually travel to European or Middle East countries by plane. I have travelled to many European and Arabic countries, but I personally would like to visit Mexico, because I adore their approach to all occasions life can possibly offer. I also love their food, their infrastructure, and the fact that a lot of gangsters are present there. And what about your mountain holiday? Which sierra are you planning to visit? How much time are you planning to spend detached from the civilisation?Do you have any kind of alpinism experience whatsoever? Please write soon.

I was asked to compare the two photos currently lying flat in front of me. I have chosen these two photos because gist displayed is rather interesting and actual for me, as I am about to finish studying in school myself.
The first image shows the viewers four university graduates exited and flattered by their examination results. No background is indicated so I cannot elaborate concerning their whereabouts. In the second photo we can see four adolescents going about their business in the school yard and four kids further away carrying their backpacks and books.
Both pictures have several things in common while being in posession of few but quite distinctive differences. Let's commence with mutualities. Both have at least some sort of connection with a scholar establishment, teachers are nowhere to be seen, and the positive attitude is overwhelming, but that's about it. Now moving on to differences. Firstly, age, obviously. Then a type of the educative center is clearly a follow-up. There are university students in the first one, whereas the second one features pupils.
I would personally prefer being one of the students in the first photo because I am looking forward to entering the adult life.

Самураи (слово значит "тот, кто служит") были Японскими воинами элитного класса на протяжении 700 лет. В десятом веке императорский суд в Киото совершил неудачную попытку организовать постоянную армию. Если бы суду удалось это делать, богатые землевладельцы возможно не приняли бы решения нанимать частных воинов и солдат и самураи возможно никогда бы и не существовали. Изначально самураи были благородными воинами, сражавшимися на лошадях, бросая вызов оппонентам в ритуальном стиле боя. Их обычаи показались бы знакомыми Европейским рыцарям, если бы они когда-нибудь встретились друг с другом. Позднее, когда армии стали больше и битвы более яростными и жестокими, практически все самураи начали учиться рукопашному бою. Однако в течение долгого промежутка времени для самураев многое обернулось не в хорошем свете и в конце концов, в 1860-е они потеряли свою позицию в Японском обществе.

After two months of penal work I have finally obtained the opportunity to relax. All my friends were either busy or out of town, so I decided to take a look at my old photographs. And here they are, the two pictures on which I am about to converse.
The first photo displays a humble and ambitious employee whose mind is currently buried deep in his work. As a matter of fact, he was so concentrated he didn't even notice I took a photo of him! That's the quality that, in my modest opinion, deserves respect.
This took place in his office, clearly.
Hurtling, making quick turns and unnoticeable hat tricks, two race cars are competing in virtual universe with one purpose only - to unravell the best of the best. These speed monsters are being remotely manipulated by two kids, whom you can see in the second photo. These fellows are my little cousins, and the picture was taken in my uncle's house.
Both photos are relatively similar but also have an array of quite distinctive differences. Both represent different computer activities and each requires patience, tremendous amount of effort and wrist motility, but that's about it. The first picture is different form the second in a pile of ways. For instance, the first photo is illustrating serious business, whilst the second photo is obviously entertainment. Other distinctions, such as the age, the presence/absence of the cameras, and the seriousness are also rather conspicuous. I personally, do not like resting, and prefer to occupy myself with additional work during my spare time. It's clear, I assume that my choice is photo "¡número uno!".

Currently laying flat in front of me are these two photos displaying different types of communication. One of the pictures introduces us to a composition of a certain diplomacy contract, in the other picture, we can see a kindergarten class at full blast.
These pictures have several things in common. Each one implies an imminent communication, both are taking place inside some sort of establishment, not outdoors, and in first and second photo it is required from all the people in presence to maintain at least some level of composure. However there are several quite distinctive differences, such as the degree of seriousness of the discussion decreasing from the first photo to the second one, the age of the people conversing (duh!) and of course the intransigence of the diplomats. I'm more keen on the kinds of situation similar to that demonstrated on the first picture, because I am willing to become a businessman and this is a type of affair I'll have to run up against rather occasionally.

In the first picture we can see a music band giving a concert at, presumably, a city hall. In the second photo there's only one person playing a piano.
The photos, as I said before, have some things in common. both display music artists. But the band plays without any doubt professionally, whereas the adolescent may as well be an amateur. The art of the group is admired by the audience, whilst the grown-up is unknown.
I prefer to observe the artwork of a music band, because that's the genre I prefer.

The first photo features a game of table soccer, or football, as we in Europe call this fantastic sport. This sort of entertainment is, I think, mainly destined for children. In the second image, we can see a real-life game of the British-born sport. We cannot substanciate the fact that this is a championship match, nor can we tell for sure that this is a practice game.
Both pictures, as I said before, have connection to the same topic. Each type of game offers the players an opportunity to compete against their peers. But the type of sport illustrated in the second photo allows you to get a better experience of football than the first one does.
I personally prefer outdoor activities, and that's precisely why I'm choosing the second photo.
