ПРЕДИСЛОВИЕ.  Новый вариант. См. часть 2, новая

Часть 1

    Данное учебное пособие предназначено для учеников начальной школы и является неразрывной частью общего учебного пособия  по английскому языку (1-4 классы).
    Пособие используется с учётом следующих обстоятельств:
   -  количество учебных часов в неделю - до 4-х;
   -  домашние задания задаются из расчёта 1/2 времени классного занятия.
   - предназначенный для зрительного восприятия учебный материал записан и должен прорабатываться как зрительно, так и на слух и (особенно на первом этапе) - аудио и визуально одновременно;
   - предложенные авторами  учебные материалы - ролевые игры, песни, слайды, фильмы - планируются учителем для подключения в учебный процесс регулярно, в зависимости от цели данного учебного занятия.

   

Часть 2

     Пособие построено по тематическому признаку и разделено на 7 юнитов (глав). Каждый юнит  делится на четыре (4) следующие части (Parts):
     1. Vocabulary and Speech.
     2. Grammar. Pronunciation.
     3. Reading. Writing. Free Speech.
     4. Distance Learning. Audio and Visual Aids.
     Как следует из вышеизложенного, учебный материал пособия представлен в чётком формате, предусматривающем обучение человека всем видам речевой деятельности: говорению, аудированию, чтению, письму.
     В то же время предусмотрена возможность осуществления учителем принципа индивидуального подхода к ученику: пособие, предлагая материал в чёткой, логической последовательности, предоставляет учителю свободу его использования с учётом особенностей учеников.
     Поэтому учитель планирует урок следующим образом:
     1. Привлекает к данному уроку тексты и упражнения пособия (возможно из разных его частей), отвечающие
         конкретным, поставленным им для  данного урока целям.
     2. "Разбивает" материал по принципу: домашняя работа - классная работа.
     3. Определяет временные рамки прохождения материала на данном занятии.
     4. Определяет временные рамки своей деятельности на уроке, а также деятельности ученика.
     5. Другое (предлагается учителем).

     Общие и обязательные условия:
     1. Знание главного текста (main text) юнита  на уровне "on the tip of the tongue" .
     2. Владение активным словарём на уровне "on the tip of the tongue".
     3. Владение грамматикой  на уровне выполнения упражнений юнита не менее, чем на удовлетворительную
         оценку.
     4. Умение произнести монолог на тему юнита  - время и количество допустимых ошибок указано в "Критериях".
     5. Вопросы - ответы (группы В, С), участие в беседе (группы А) - количество допустимых ошибок указано в
        "Критериях".
 
      Как уже писалось в части 1, предназначенный для зрительного восприятия учебный материал записан и должен прорабатываться как зрительно, так и на слух и (особенно на первом этапе) - аудио и визуально одновременно. При этом в первое время (группы С) учитель озвучивает также текст сам с тем, чтобы впоследствии научить ученика работать с аудионосителем самостоятельно. Аудиозапись - обязательный компонент домашнего задания ученика.

     Юнит (глава)  проходится в среднем за 16 - 20 учебных часов. При планировании работы с пособием следует учитывать общешкольный план учебно-воспитательной работы и возможность "вывода" учебного материала в практическую жизнь Школы-ВУЗа (праздники, флешмобы, погружения, дни самоуправления и т.д.)     
     
     Метод обучения, которым пользуется Школа-ВУЗ "Современное образование", является комплексным (см. сайт www.school-so.ru, "Наша концепция"). Данное учебное пособие разработано в его рамках.
   
     Пособие предусматривает возможность работы в дистанционном режиме.

Victory Day. New Year

     Our country is unique and so are its customs and traditions, which people have been practicing for a long time. We keep them and we are very proud of them.
     The most important holidays we celebrate in this country are Victory Day and New Year.
     We celebrate Victory Day on the 9th of May. On this day, in 1945 00:00 hours 43 minutes Moscow time, the act of surrender of the fascists was signed.
     It was the most terrible war in the history of the planet. It was started by fascist Germany on the 22nd of June 1941 and lasted 4 years. It took away the lives of millions of our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers. They won the war and gave us a chance to live and celebrate our peaceful holidays.
   
     New Year is one of them. The tradition is to get the whole family together on the New Year's Eve and have a festive dinner. The festive dinner usually begins an hour or so before the New Year comes at 12 o'clock. We say "good bye" to the old year and then welcome the new one. Celebrations include the lighting of the New Year tree, a visit of Ded Moroz (Grandfather Frost) and the opening of champagne. We clink glasses and say "Happy New Year!" to each other.

     В английском языке (как и в русском) прилагательные имеют степени сравнения:
- сравнительную (comparative)
- превосходную (superlative).

     Прилагательные односложные (long, quick, small, ...) образуют сравнительную степень путем прибавления окончания -er (longer, quicker, smaller, ...). Превосходную степень - окончания -est (the longest, the quickest, the smallest, ...).
     Прилагательные многосложные (important, interesting, comfortable, ...) образуют сравнительную степень путем прибавления слова more (more important, more interesting, more comfortable, ...). Превосходную степень - слова (the) most (the most important, the most interesting, the most comfrortable).

     Существуют исключения, такие как good - better - the best (хороший - лучше - лучший) и bad - worse - the worst (плохой - хуже - худший) - их надо запомнить.

1.Easter in Russia

     Easter in Russia is called Paskha. It is marked by a 40 (forty) day fast. On the night of Easter Orthodox Christians attend the night service in churches, some of them watch the night service in Cathedral of Christ the Savior (Собор Христа Спасителя) on television. Many of them go to churches in the day time. On Easter morning  and throughout the day people (believers and non-believers) congratulate each other by saying "Khristos Voskrese", the answer to which is "Voistinu Voskrese". And we all eat coloured eggs and kulichi the whole Easter day.
     Everybody in this country knows what Paskha is, respects this tradition and considers it to be one of the most important ones.

2. The Army Day in Russia

     February 23 has been a special day in this country since long ago. It was celebrated in the Soviet Union and it is celebrated nowadays as one of the most popular traditions of this country.
    The holiday started as the Red Army day in 1918 and has been changing its name many times. Its current name is  Defendants of the Fatherland day.
     Whatever the changes are we all know that this is the day when all the male population of the country has the legal right to receive congratulations and gifts from their better halves. The men of this country have always been brave, clever and strong, in fact the best warriors in the world. They have been victorious in many wars and produced unbelievable discoveries in both science and industry over an unbelievably short period of time. Furthermore, they have created the cleverest literature and art in the world.

3. What Holidays do You Like Best of All?

     Best of all I like New Year and Victory Day. New Year is the most fantastic holiday in the world. However, Victory Day is more important for us, the citizens of this country. We won victory over fascist Germany and thus preserved the independence of the Soviet people and saved them from slavery.
     The New Year is famous for Ded Moroz,  Snegourochka and other wonderful characters who come to our homes and schools with the purpose of giving us presents, congratulating us and wishing us the best of everything.
     On Victory Day, we watch the military parade in Red Square and participate in the Bessmertniy Polk (the Immortal Regiment) procession. Thousands of people all over this country march along the main streets of their cities and towns, carrying portraits of their beloved relatives who struggled against the fascists and won victory in the Great Patriotic War.

4. The Day of Love and Kindness

      This is the holiday which we celebrate as a special school holiday. The tradition started long ago and came out of The All Lovers' Day. Very soon we transformed it into The Day of Love and Kindness.
      The holiday falls on February 14, and you can not find a more convenient time for its celebration: New Year is more than a month behind, and the kids want another holiday.
     How is it celebrated in Modern Education High and Higher School? Every year Aphrodite and Cupid descend from the skies to tell our pupils that love is the best feeling in the world and there is no place for hatred in our school. In the main hall  the pupils perform the world's masterpieces about love and demonstrate their successes in Russian, English, History and Literature.
     The Day is crowned by the opening of the Love Letter box and the reading of the love letters.   

5. The End of the School Quarter

      There are four quarters in the school year and we mark the end of each one of them. The End of the School Quarter is celebrated in our school four times a school year. It is a holiday we all look forward to.
     The program of the holiday includes the giving end of term marks in each subject and the chance to improve the marks. The process begins a week before the end of the school quarter and it is performed according to the school's slogan, which says that everyone has a chance to be happy. After we have improved our marks we make merry -  sing songs, dance, recite poems and take part in the performances in which we use the skills in different subjects we managed to acquire during the quarter.
     The End of the School Quarter is followed by a week (or more) holiday. And this is the main point of it! In fact the End of the School Quarter holiday tradition is one of the best traditions in our school.

The Main Texts

Television

     Television came into our life in the middle of the XX century,? and soon it became difficult to imagine our life without it. It brought the world into our living room.  It brought theartre and cinema into our homes. It helped us to learn of other countries, their customs, traditions and holidays.
     Our grandfathers and grandmothers sat glued to the TV screen...There was a point of view that television would do away with the theatre and cinema. But fortunately it hasn't!

Internet

     In the XXI century the internet came into our life. Nowadays it’s difficult to imagine our lives without it. Here is what Boris says about the Internet.
    "I stopped watching TV 2 years ago. I think it's not convenient. In the internet I can see the films I want and find the information I need. Besides, I can play computer games.
     Furthermore, I use the internet for distance learning. I connect to my teachers and do my homework with the help of the computer. It's a convenient form of education. However I started to miss my friends, my teachers and my school. In fact I am sick and tired of playing computer games and I want to play real games. And I want real education."

1. Cinema

     Cinema came into our life at the beginning of the 20th century and like theatre brought tragedies, comedies, operas and ballets into it.
     Going to the cinema has always been a happy part of our life.
We usually go to the cinema when we want to see a super new film which is much talked about.

2. Radio and Its Advantages

     Radio is one of the most wonderful discoveries made by human beings. It came into our life in the 19th century. Priority in the invention of radio belongs to the Russian scientist Popov.
     One of the advantages of the radio is that it can be enjoyed anywhere: at home, in office, and while driving the car. The biggest advantage is the following: you can listen to it while doing other activities like driving or household(s) tasks.
    However there is one obvious disadvantage: the information is not supported by the picture. Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words.
     There are many radio channels, and people have their favourite ones. They listen to them regularly. Some radio programs are especially interesting for the young. The success of the programs depends very much on the personality of the talk-show host. Sometimes radio listeners send emails (or even write letters) to the radio-studios and express their viewpoints, approve or disapprove of the program.

3. Radio

 
     Radio is one of the most wonderful discoveries made by human beings. It is the wireless transmission of sounds. This invention was the discovery of the 19th century. Priority in the invention of radio belongs to the Russian scientist Popov. On the 7th of May we celebrate Radio Day.
     The advantage of the radio is a low price. It is cheaper to buy a radio-receiver than PC or TV-set. Radio has some obvious disadvantages. The information couldn’t be supported by the picture. Pictures help us to percept information more intensive. Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words.
     We use radio to listen to the music on the way. It is not popular anymore, because radio is replaced by the Internet nowadays.
     But radio is still one of the most powerful parts of mass media systems.

4. Theatre

     My Mum says that with our TV sets at home we no longer need the Theatre and do not care whether it lives of dies. During the last forty years the theatre has had to meet three challenge — from cinema, radio, and television. All three produce drama of a sort; all possess important advantages. But without a living theatre movies and television plays would be very crude.

The New Year Day. Christmas

      Mary, John and Boris are sitting in the living room and talking. Boris has just come back from London, where his family had celebrated Christmas, which is their favourite holiday.
     "What do you usually do on the Christmas day?"  Mary asks Boris.
     "We give presents to each other, we decorate the Christmas tree at home and sometimes we go to the centre of London on the Christmas Eve. And what is your favourite holiday?"
    "Our favourite holiday is New Year", John answers. "It falls on the first of January and the most important time is the New Year’s Eve. At midnight the Kremlin clock strikes twelve times, our parents open champagne and clink glasses."
     "And what do children do?" " We wait for Ded Moroz (Grandfather Frost) to come with his granddaughter Snegurochka. He will give us the gifts from his large sack. We usually ask him to bring the presents we want", Mary says.
     "Does he listen to you?" "Yes, he does if we study well at school and behave ourselves.  Last year I got new hockey skates! I want to get a LEGO set this year.  I have been studying well and behaving myself since the beginning of the school year. I hope Ded Moroz  grants my wish", John answers.

1.   Holidays in Russia. New Year

     There are many holidays in Russia: New Year, Christmas, Love Day, Army Day, Easter, Victory Day and others.
     New Year is the most popular holiday in this country. Children like it very much because it is like a fairy tale.
     They decorate the New Year tree (it's a fir tree in Russia), write New Year cards, give presents to each other and their mothers, fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers. Very often they make the presents and New Year toys themselves. The grown up people like these presents most of all.
     "How are you getting ready for the coming New Year?"
     "I am writing New Year cards in the Internet and improving my school marks. My mother says that my good marks are the best present for her. By the way, I have just got an excellent mark for an English test".

2. Christmas and Easter are very important
     Christmas in Russia falls on the 7th of January. On the Christmas eve my grandparents watch the night service in the
Cathedral of Christ the Savior (Собор Христа Спасителя) and my parents go to the Cathedral to participate in the service.
     "Do they participate in the sacred procession (крестный ход)?"
     "There is no sacred procession on Christmas night, but there is one on the Easter night. My parents tried it two years ago. They say it's a wonderful experience and they have been doing it every year since that time."
    "Are your parents religious people?"
    "No, they are not. But they cherish the customs and traditions of Russia."

3. The USA. A country of many different traditions
     The USA is a country consisting of 50 states. Among them are the state of New York, Florida, Alabama and many others. The USA is the country where people of different nations came to live in order to become safe, rich and happy.
     Different nations have brought different cultures, customs and traditions into the USA. However there are some holidays and traditions which are marked and celebrated all over the country. Among them are Christmas, New Year, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day and others.

4. New Year Around the World
     Celebrating the New Year is a tradition the world over. However not every country celebrates it on the same day.
     The Americans and Europeans celebrate their New Year on the First of January (January 1).  The date was introduced by the Romans. Julius Caesar did it to honour James Befus, a god with two faces. One face looks back to the old year and the other looks forward to the New Year.
     The Chinese celebrate the New Year according to the lunar calendar, at a time between January 21 and February 19.
In India they celebrate the first day of each season. So the Hindus have four New Years in their calendar.
     However, in every country New Year means the beginning of a new and happier life. All the people want to make the coming year better than the year that has just passed into eternity.

5. The Traditions I Like
     Hello! My name is Misha. I live in Moscow, Russia. I am nine. I am a third year pupil. I go to Modern Education school where I study two languages - Russian and English.
     I've been studying in the school for two and a half years now and I've learnt much about customs, traditions and holidays the world over. What tradition is my favourite?  New Year is very important.  I like to decorate the New Year tree, to write New Year congratulation cards to my friends and relatives and to meet Ded Moroz when he comes with his big sack and grants me with his gifts.
     Another tradition which I like is my birthday.

Victory Day. New Year

     Our country is unique and so are its customs and traditions, which people have been practicing for a long time. We keep them and we are very proud of them.
     The most important holidays we celebrate in this country are Victory Day and New Year.
     We celebrate Victory Day on the 9th of May. On this day, in 1945 00:00 hours 43 minutes Moscow time, the act of surrender of the fascists was signed.
     It was the most terrible war in the history of the planet. It was started by fascist Germany on the 22nd of June 1941 and lasted 4 years. It took away the lives of millions of our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers. They won the war and gave us a chance to live and celebrate our peaceful holidays.
   
     New Year is one of them. The tradition is to get the whole family together on the New Year's Eve and have a festive dinner. The festive dinner usually begins an hour or so before the New Year comes at 12 o'clock. We say "good bye" to the old year and then welcome the new one. Celebrations include the lighting of the New Year tree, a visit of Ded Moroz (Grandfather Frost) and the opening of champagne. We clink glasses and say "Happy New Year!" to each other.

1.Easter in Russia

     Easter in Russia is called Paskha. It is marked by a 40 (forty) day fast. On the night of Easter Orthodox Christians attend the night service in churches, some of them watch the night service in Cathedral of Christ the Savior (Собор Христа Спасителя) on television. Many of them go to churches in the day time. On Easter morning  and throughout the day people (believers and non-believers) congratulate each other by saying "Khristos Voskrese", the answer to which is "Voistinu Voskrese". And we all eat coloured eggs and kulichi the whole Easter day.
     Everybody in this country knows what Paskha is, respects this tradition and considers it to be one of the most important ones.

2. The Army Day in Russia

     February 23 has been a special day in this country since long ago. It was celebrated in the Soviet Union and it is celebrated nowadays as one of the most popular traditions of this country.
    The holiday started as the Red Army day in 1918 and has been changing its name many times. Its current name is  Defendants of the Fatherland day.
     Whatever the changes are we all know that this is the day when all the male population of the country has the legal right to receive congratulations and gifts from their better halves. The men of this country have always been brave, clever and strong, in fact the best warriors in the world. They have been victorious in many wars and produced unbelievable discoveries in both science and industry over an unbelievably short period of time. Furthermore, they have created the cleverest literature and art in the world.

3. What Holidays do You Like Best of All?

     Best of all I like New Year and Victory Day. New Year is the most fantastic holiday in the world. However, Victory Day is more important for us, the citizens of this country. We won victory over fascist Germany and thus preserved the independence of the Soviet people and saved them from slavery.
     The New Year is famous for Ded Moroz,  Snegourochka and other wonderful characters who come to our homes and schools with the purpose of giving us presents, congratulating us and wishing us the best of everything.
     On Victory Day, we watch the military parade in Red Square and participate in the Bessmertniy Polk (the Immortal Regiment) procession. Thousands of people all over this country march along the main streets of their cities and towns, carrying portraits of their beloved relatives who struggled against the fascists and won victory in the Great Patriotic War.

4. The Day of Love and Kindness

      This is the holiday which we celebrate as a special school holiday. The tradition started long ago and came out of The All Lovers' Day. Very soon we transformed it into The Day of Love and Kindness.
      The holiday falls on February 14, and you can not find a more convenient time for its celebration: New Year is more than a month behind, and the kids want another holiday.
     How is it celebrated in Modern Education High and Higher School? Every year Aphrodite and Cupid descend from the skies to tell our pupils that love is the best feeling in the world and there is no place for hatred in our school. In the main hall  the pupils perform the world's masterpieces about love and demonstrate their successes in Russian, English, History and Literature.
     The Day is crowned by the opening of the Love Letter box and the reading of the love letters.   

5. The End of the School Quarter

      There are four quarters in the school year and we mark the end of each one of them. The End of the School Quarter is celebrated in our school four times a school year. It is a holiday we all look forward to.
     The program of the holiday includes the giving end of term marks in each subject and the chance to improve the marks. The process begins a week before the end of the school quarter and it is performed according to the school's slogan, which says that everyone has a chance to be happy. After we have improved our marks we make merry -  sing songs, dance, recite poems and take part in the performances in which we use the skills in different subjects we managed to acquire during the quarter.
     The End of the School Quarter is followed by a week (or more) holiday. And this is the main point of it! In fact the End of the School Quarter holiday tradition is one of the best traditions in our school.
