Our motherland is immense, no other country equals it in size. It covers In the west the Russian Federation borders on Norway, Finland, the Baltic one-seventh of the world's land area and occupies over 17 million square kilometres States, Belorussia, the Ukraine. In the east it is washed by the Pacific Ocean. In the south this country borders on Kazakhstan, Georgia and Azerbaijan, in the south-east on China, Mongolia and Korea. The Urals divide the country into two parts: the larger part the country is in нAsia and the smaller - in Europe. The Asian part includes Siberia. It is a land of fine forests and mighty rivers. in the south are steppes. of the Caspian Sea. In the far north of Siberia are the tundra lands, to the south stretches the taiga, The deserts and semideserts cover most of the area around the northern shores Many the rivers of the Russian Federation are among the world's greatest. The most important rivers of the western plains are the Volga, the Dnieper, the Don. In Siberia the biggest rivers are the Ob, the Yenisei and the Lena. They flow northward through the vast area parallel to one another. In the Far East the Amur flows into the Pacific the Caspian Sea and the deepest-lake Baikal. the Caucasus between the Caspian and Black Seas and the Pamirs in Asia. lakes, too, this country is very rich. Among them are the world's greatest lake The Urals form the natural border between Europe and Asia, but they are not high. The highest mountain chains are situated in the south-east of the country There is no other country in the world, whose nature is more varied than that of the Russian Federation. If you cross the Russian Federation from the extreme north to the south you will get a good idea of the difference in scenery, to say nothing of the climate contrasts. The Crimea is unlike the Urals, the Caucasus differs from the Pamirs. One region is famous for one thing, another is superior in another. This country is rich in natural resources and that is a great advantage: mankind depends more and more on the natural resources. The reserves of timber, oil. coal, iron, gold and metals are very large President. The legislative powers are exercised by the Duma. The Russian Federation is a parliamentary republic. The Head of State is the The capital of Russia is Moscow. It's its largest political, scientific and cultural centre. It's one of the oldest Russian cities. The population of Russia is 140 million people.
