Joan Wilder is from New York. She is a successful romance novelist. But Joan is so lonely. Her editor believes she is waiting to meet a romantic hero like the ones she writes about. Joan gets a call from her sister Elaine, who has been kidnapped by smugglers. As Joan leaves her apartment to meet her editor, Gloria, she is handed a letter containing a map, sent to her by her late brother-in-law, Eduardo, who had been murdered a few days prior. While she is gone, a man tries to break into her apartment and is discovered by her apartment supervisor, who he kills. Returning to her apartment, Joan finds it ransacked. Joan then receives a frantic phone call from Elaine, who instructs Joan to go to Colombia with the map she received.

***
Flying to Colombia, Joan is detoured by Zolo, the man who killed Elaine's husband, Eduardo. Zolo tricks her into boarding the wrong bus, heading deep into the interior of the country instead of to the coastal city of Cartagena, where Elaine is being held. When Joan distracts the bus driver by asking where they are going, the bus crashes into a Land Rover, wrecking both vehicles. As the rest of the passengers walk away, Joan is menaced by Zolo but is saved by the Land Rover's owner, American exotic bird smuggler Jack T. Colton. For getting her out of the jungle and to a telephone, Joan promises to pay Jack $375 in traveler's cheques.
Jack and Joan travel the jungle while eluding the military police and Zolo, who wants the treasure map. After spending a night hiding in a marijuana smuggler's crashed C-47 aircraft, they encounter a drug lord named Juan, who is a big fan of Joan's novels and helps them escape from Zolo.

1. “Summit is a good place for kidnapping,” said Sam. “Parents love their children in small towns. And there are no curious journalists.”

2. Bill and Sam chose for their victim the only child of an important man. Mr. Dorset was respectable and stingy. His son was ten with red freckles and red hair.

3. The boy threw a piece of brick at Bill’s eye.
“That will cost the old man an extra five hundred dollars!” said Bill.

4. The boy fought like a bear, but at last we put him in the buggy and drove away.

5. They took him to the cave.

6. The boy was having a lot of fun. He forgot he was a prisoner himself.

7. They went to bed at about eleven o’clock. Red Chief was between Sam and Bill. Sam was awakened by a series of terrible screams from Bill.

8. Sam jumped up to see what the matter was. Red Chief was sitting on Bill’s chest. He was pulling Bill’s hair with one hand. In the other hand he had a knife. He was trying to take Bill’s scalp!

9.“He put a hot potato down my back and mashed it with his foot,” said Bill.

10. A letter to Mr. Dorset,
We have your boy hidden in a place far from Summit. Don’t try to find him.

11. Another offer: YOU bring Johnny home and pay me $250 in cash, and I agree to take him off your hands.

12. They took him home that night. It was midnight when we arrived at Ebenezer’s house. Bill gave him the $250.

13.“Enough,” said Bill. “In ten minutes I’ll cross most of the United States, and be near the Canadian border.”
Bill was fat and he was not a good runner. But that night no one ran faster than Bill

Hello, guys! ASDFG and DAS! What are those "Easy", "Medium" and "Difficult" evaluations meant for?

Hello, Ann! It's just for the teachers to know, we didn't use these evaluations during the test.

Texts 2 and 3 can certainly be used for the occasion. And the slides which go with them.

Gone with the Wind

Text 1

Scarlett O'Hara was not beautiful,  but men didn't understand it. They liked her very much.
She was sitting in the company of two boys, the twins, nineteen years old, tall and long legged, their eyes merry and arrogant.
The twins' horses were nearby, big animals, red as their masters' hair. And around the horses'  legs quarrelled the pack of nervous hounds that accompanied the twins wherever they went.
A little aloof lay a black spotted dog, patiently waiting for the boys to go home to supper.

Text 2

It was dark in the library. The room was filled with dark books and it depressed Scarlett. She started to think it wasn’t the right place for her serious talk with Ashley.
She closed the door and tried to make her heart beat more slowly. Scarlett tried to think of what she had planned to tell him, but she couldn’t remember anything. All she could think of was that she loved everything in him – from his golden hair to his dark boots. He had to love her, too!

Text 3

“Ah, Scarlett!” said Ashley, opening the door and looking at her with a smile “What are you doing here?
“Ashley, I’ve got a secret to tell you”
“What is it?” he asked. “A secret to tell me?”
“Yes – a secret. I love you.”

Hello, DAS. About "The Beatles" and "Elvis Presley". The texts are good. I would suggest you indicate what exactly groups they are meant for.  Besides that I recommend to introduce the names of a number of their most well known songs.

A and B groups

The Beatles

The Beatles were an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. With members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, they became regarded as the foremost and most influential music band in history.

Led by primary songwriters Lennon and McCartney, the Beatles built their reputation playing clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg over a period from 1960 to 1963. The core trio of Lennon, McCartney and Harrison, together since 1958, went through a lot of drummers, before asking Starr to join them in 1962. Their Manager Brian Epstein and producer George Martin guided and developed their recordings, greatly expanding the group's homeland success after their first hit, "Love Me Do". Their popularity soon became fan frenzy called "Beatlemania".

By early 1964, the Beatles were international stars, leading the United States pop market and breaking numerous sales records.  After disbanding in 1970, the four members each enjoyed success as solo artists. Lennon was shot and killed in December 1980, and Harrison died of lung cancer in November 2001. McCartney and Starr remain musically active.

The Beatles are the best-selling band in history, with sales of over 800 million records worldwide. They have received seven Grammy Awards, an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score and many others. They were also collectively included in Time magazine's compilation of the twentieth century's 100 most influential people.

Elvis Presley

Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi. He was raised by loving, working-class parents. Presley's family had little money, and they often used to move from place to place. After graduating from Humes High School in Memphis in 1953, he worked at a number of jobs but always dreamt to become a musician.

He cut his first demo record at Sun Studio that year, and soon, Sam Phillips, the record label owner, decided to take the young performer under his wing. Presley soon began touring and recording, trying to catch his first success. "That's All Right" was Presley's first single in 1954. By 1960 he was at the top of the charts on the radio, television and the silver screen.

Presley married Priscilla Beaulieu in 1967 but later divorced her in 1973. The couple had one daughter together, Lisa Marie, who was born in 1968. Sometime in the morning of August 16, 1977, Presley died of heart failure, at the age of 42.

Throughout his amazing career, Presley helped popularize rock 'n' roll music in America and continues to be one of the biggest names in rock'n'roll nowadays.

Over the years, several documentary films have been shot to explore this incredible performer. Since his death, Presley has remained one of the world's most popular music icons. Presley's Memphis home, Graceland, is open to the public, and numerous fans from around the world visit the legendary residence every year, especially around Presley's birthday and the anniversary of his death.
